Who We Are

Our Points of Unity

Our coalition is comprised of organizations and individuals committed to the following points of unity.

1

We believe our social, economic, and ecological problems are interconnected and interdependent, and therefore so must be the solutions.
We are a coalition of a diverse group of organizations and individuals from different sectors and with different interests. We believe our issue areas are intertwined, and our solutions are interdependent, and therefore serve to organize to support and uplift one another, while furthering the objectives of the coalition at large.

2

We oppose all forms of oppression, exploitation and violence.
We do the hard work necessary to build a broad, strong movement of oppressed people centered on the working class against racism, sexism, nativism, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, homophobia, transphobia, and discrimination against people with disabilities, the oldest, the youngest, and the most oppressed people. We will win! (Inspired by Torch Network)

3

We center our work around the most vulnerable communities in Jersey City.
Struggle and class consciousness condition us for political and economic power. We believe in the necessity of organizing the working class and in its ability to revolutionize the world. We are an abolitionist coalition that must resist the prison industrial complex. We are an internationalist network given Jersey City’s diverse immigrant community, united by the people’s struggles in each of our home countries. (Inspired by Red Star San Francisco)

4

We are committed to the empowerment of our community through people’s education, skills shares, and consciousness-raising.
We reject the state’s attempts to use the global health pandemic of COVID-19 as a justification for increased militarization and criminalization of oppressed communities. We believe that the people can come together and protect one another without tools of fascism, but instead with tools of liberation. Within our community, we have the skills and talents necessary to rebuild a more equitable society during and post-pandemic.

5

We acknowledge that the work of building a new society begins within each of us.
We recognize that we have been raised in a society and culture that values profit over people. The current capitalist system sees people as expendable and we must hold space for one another as we heal with respect and gratitude. We must work every moment of every day to unlearn the oppressive behaviors we may have inherited and to learn how to enact principles of liberation and justice in our daily lives through accountability and compassion.
